You might have heard of the concept called “inbound links” and authority. These two terms are common in the SEO world and they have to do with how many websites are linking to your website. The more links to your website the more popular it would seem (at least that is what the Google robots would think), this trick resulted in many portal domains being registered and then linking to various “spam” website who would end up high in the Google search rankings. This spamming forced Google to change their ranking algorithm (again). Now the Google robots will look at the inbound links pointing to your website and starts analyzing those pages as well to see if the content is relevant to that of your website. This seemed to work but it also caused a major problem for the guys who did play fair…

Any idea what I am talking about yet ? Well let me tell you : Many web designers and web design companies tend to add a little footer to the web pages they design for their clients which links back to the web designers page. So if you have designed 500 different websites you will now have 500 inbound links to your website BUT because of the Google algorithm alarm bells will go off because the content of those 500 different websites will have nothing to do with your website and hence count as “bad” inbound links.

I decided to investigate the issue further to see if my theory is correct and although the internet is huge and all knowing this answer seemed to have eloped the mighty web so I posted my question on the Google Webmasters Forum. Many answers were giving but all of them seemed to be “not sure” and doubtful and since Google will never admit or disclose information about the effects its search algorithm has on websites I had to accept some solutions and workarounds.

So if you want to know more about this , why not get in touch with us and we will discuss what is best for your company !
